<p>Nils A. Guttenplan, MD, is an Attending Physician in the Cardiology Department at Montefiore. His clinical focus is improving the patient's quality of life and prognosis across the spectrum of heart rhythm disorders. He has an interest in all contemporary approaches to achieve this aim, including pacemakers, defibrillators, catheter ablations, and left atrial appendage occlusion devices. Dr. Guttenplan joined the Montefiore team in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Guttenplan attended New York Medical College&nbsp;where he received his Doctor of Medicine. In 2004, Dr. Guttenplan completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent?s Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at New York University.</p><p>Dr. Guttenplan is the Principal Investigator in a study on left ventricular quadripolar pacing lead. <p>Jay N. His clinical focus is on complex electrophysiology (EP) management problems as well as issues related to implantation and management of all types of implantable electrical devices, with a focus on lead extraction.</p><p>After graduating from our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completing his residency at Montefiore in Internal Medicine, Dr. Gross continued on to complete a cardiology fellowship at Montefiore. <br /><br />Dr. Gross has been a principal site or co-investigator in many of the critical clinical trials that have established the utility and indications for pacemaker mode selection, rate-modulated pacing, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy. He has also been principal or co-author of dozens of scientific publications.</p><p>Recent clinical highlights for Dr. Gross include: the first reported cases of implantation of subcutaneous ICDs in heart transplant patients, simultaneous lead extraction and debulking of large vegetations in patients with endocarditis, concomitant lead extraction and implantation of leadless pacemakers, and care for of congenital heart patients who require both transvenously implanted devices and subcutaneous ICDs.</p><p>Dr. Gross is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Electrophysiology as well as a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Gross has served on the Writing Committee of the International Board of Heart Rhythm Board of Examiners for over two decades and now serves on its board of directors. He has been named to the Castle Connolly/NY Magazine List of Best EP Doctors in New York for the past two years.</p>

<p>Dr. Galen graduated from Brown University with honors in the biological sciences and earned an M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. &nbsp;He trained in internal medicine at Yale University where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and was the class speaker at residency graduation. &nbsp;He joined Montefiore and Einstein in 2013 as a teaching attending in Hospital Medicine</p>
<p>Dr. Galen is an Associate Program Director in The Einstein/Montefiore Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Director of Firm 3 and the Director of ultrasound and procedure training. &nbsp;In 2015 Dr. Galen received the Sharon R. Silbiger Faculty Teaching Award from the Einstein residents. &nbsp;He has led hundreds of resident teaching conferences and has worked to formalize curricula for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and bedside procedures, such as lumbar puncture and paracentesis. &nbsp;Dr. Galen has taught in the EPHEM, Microbiology, and PDC classes at Einstein. &nbsp;He has led translational research on recurrent meningitis, collaborting with members of Betsy Herold's laboratory. He has co-authored over 20 original research studies. &nbsp;Dr. Galen is passionate about medical case reports and he has mentored residents and junior faculty in the process of publishing cases in a variety of venues. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Richard Charney, MD, is Attending Cardiologist at Montefiore and Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical focus is on the treatment of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and congestive heart failure. He practices both clinical cardiology and interventional cardiology, including complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1984 from the City College of New York, Dr. Charney went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of The City University of New York in 1986. His postdoctoral training began with his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1986 to 1989. He then came to Montefiore Medical Center, completing a cardiology fellowship in 1992, followed by an advanced interventional cardiology fellowship in 1993.</p><p>Dr. Charney&rsquo;s research interests follow his clinical focus, and he provides research support on many medication trials. His research findings have been published in many reviewed journals and abstracts.</p><p>For a decade, Dr. Charney has been included in Castle Connolly Metro Top Doctors. He has also been listed among Westchester Top Doctors and has been a counselor on the New York State Chapter American College of Cardiology.
