Lieman, MD, is the director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, and Infertility, Medical Director of Montefiore&rsquo;s Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health and is the Reproductive Tissue Bank Medical Director for oocyte and sperm donation at Montefiore. He is also Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women&rsquo;s Health at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Lieman&rsquo;s clinical focus is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),<em>&nbsp;in vitro</em>&nbsp;fertilization (IVF), and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). He began his postdoctoral education with a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Montefiore-Einstein, acting as administrative chief resident in his final year. He then pursued a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, completing the fellowship in 1996.</p><p>Dr. Lieman&rsquo;s research interests include PCOS and fertility treatment outcome studies. His most recent studies have used the annual Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) clinical summary report to assess various IVF treatments and results at a national level. He has been an active contributor to his field of research, publishing journal articles, abstracts, book chapters and presenting at annual conferences and information sessions.</p><p>Dr. Lieman has been recognized several times by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) with STAR Awards for his many presentations at ASRM annual meetings. <p>Dr. Levy, Director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology at The Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore, was the principal investigator for the Children&rsquo;s Oncology Group, the nation's largest consortium of childhood cancer researchers, and currently leads an international clinical trial for children with recurrent brain tumors. Dr. Levy&rsquo;s clinical interests focus on brain tumors, particularly new drugs and treatment plans for children with brain tumors.</p>
<p>As Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Levy also has a strong interest in medical education. He is director of the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training program, and he is chair of the Committee on Graduate Medical Education.</p>
<p>After graduating from Cornell University, Dr. Levy received his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. He was a Chief Resident in Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he received the Department of Pediatrics Resident Clinician-Teacher Award. He then completed his fellowship and was Chief Fellow in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and New York Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he received the Charles Trobman Memorial Award.&nbsp; He was nominated Attending Physician of the Year in Pediatrics at NYU Medical Center before joining Montefiore and Einstein. In 2007 he received a Children&rsquo;s Tumor Foundation Humanitarian Award for his care of children with tumors associated with neurofibromatosis, and in 2011 he was elected to the Society for Pediatric Research.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Adam Levy, MD, is a Clinical Professor who works per diem at Montefiore Einstein in the trainee&rsquo;s clinic. He specializes in general pediatric hematology and oncology, with a focus on tumors of the brain and spine, solid tumors and tumors associated with neurofibromatosis.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Science at Cornell University, Dr. Levy earned his Doctor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. Following this, he completed training in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and became Chief Resident. Dr. Levy then completed a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and New York Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow.</p><p>Dr. Levy&rsquo;s early research training in a transitional science laboratory focused on mechanisms and pathways explaining tumor cell chemotherapy resistance. He was the principal investigator for the Children&rsquo;s Oncology Group, the nation's largest consortium of childhood cancer researchers, and currently leads an international clinical trial for children with recurrent brain tumors. As a clinical investigator, his current research focuses on using new drugs and treatment plans for pediatric cancer patients. He has studied and published ways to improve clinical care of patients, mentorship in pediatric oncology, communication skills training and burnout amongst clinicians. He has been an invited presenter on these topics nationally.</p><p>Dr. Levy is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, and his efforts have been recognized numerous times as a New York Magazine Top Doctor. He has also won many awards, including the Children&rsquo;s Tumor Foundation Humanitarian Award, The Davidoff Society Education Award and the Charles Trobman Memorial Award.</p>

Dr. Kobets received his Medical Doctorate and Master of Health Science degrees from the Yale School of Medicine and completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Kobets is the first in his family born in the United States and is from Queens, NY. His family is Ukrainian with roots in Siberia as well. Dr. Kobets' practice is focused on a patient- and family-centered approach, utilizing the most advanced neurosurgical technologies via minimally-invasive procedures to treat the most complex neurosurgical conditions in both children and adults. Doctor Kobets has offices throughout the Bronx and Westchester.</p>

<p>Andrew Joshua Kobets, MD, is Attending Physician at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kobets specializes in pediatric neurological surgery with a focus on minimally invasive tumor resection, neuro-endoscopy for hydrocephalus, craniofacial reconstruction, Chiari malformation surgery, tethered cord syndrome repair, and pediatric cranial trauma management.</p><p>In 2005, Dr. Kobets received his Bachelor of Arts in systems neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. From 2007 to 2012, he attended Yale University. During this time, he received his Master of Health Sciences and Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Kobets began his postgraduate training in 2012 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and continued to train there until 2019. He began with a year-long internship in neurological surgery. He then completed a 6-year residency in neurological surgery, becoming Chief Resident in the final year. In 2019, Dr. Kobets began a year-long fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.</p><p>Dr. Kobets&rsquo; research aims to develop a model of hydrocephalus secondary to intraventricular hemorrhage to trial the use of cutting-edge therapies to prevent life-long shunt dependence in children with hydrocephalus. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, books and abstracts, and has been presented internationally at invited presentations.</p><p>The Norma Bailey Berniker Prize was given to Dr. Kobets by the Yale School of Medicine in 2012. In 2018, Dr. Kobets received the Fred Epstein Award from the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery. The following year, he received the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award for Outstanding Medical Student Education.</p><p>Dr. Kobets is a member of numerous professional societies, including the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery, the American Academy of Neurological Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery. </p>

<p>Samuel Gorstein, MD, is Director, Resident Education, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Gorstein&rsquo;s clinical focus is on the care of critically ill infants, children and adolescents, focusing on conditions requiring intensive monitoring, life support and complex interventions, such as respiratory failure, sepsis, trauma and post-surgical recovery.
</p><p>After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biophysics from Brown University, Dr. Gorstein attended the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2009. He then began his postgraduate training with an internship and residency in Pediatrics at Baystate Medical Center from 2009 to 2012. In 2015, he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital. </p><p>Dr. Gorstein oversees resident education in the PICU and has developed a didactic curriculum for residents rotating through the PICU at CHAM. His research aligns with his clinical expertise, and his work has been shared through peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations, abstracts, and poster presentations at professional meetings. </p><p>Dr. Gorstein is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. <p>Dr. Karen Ballaban-Gil is Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics, the Director of the Child Neurology Residency Training Program and Director of Outpatient Child Neurology Services at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Union College and Cum Laude from Albany Medical College, in the 6 year combined B.S- M.D. program. Dr. Ballaban-Gil trained in general pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and trained in child neurology and clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She received board certifications in pediatrics, neurology with special competence in child neurology , clinical neurophysiology and in epilepsy.</p>
<p><br />Dr. Ballaban-Gil has a large clinical practice in child neurology, including the evaluation and treatment of children with epilepsy, headaches, sleep disorders, autism and other developmental disabilities. Her research interests include the relationship between epilepsy and language regression in youngsters with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, autism, and other developmental disorders of higher cognitive functioning. In addition, she runs the Ketogenic Diet program for the management of intractable epilepsy at the Montefiore Medical Center - Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Her publications include numerous papers on autism, epilepsy related language disorders, and the Ketogenic Diet.</p>

Dr. Ballaban-Gil has a large clinical practice in child neurology, including the evaluation and treatment of children with epilepsy, headaches, sleep disorders, autism and other developmental disabilities.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Science at Union College in 1984, Dr. Ballaban-Gil earned her Doctor of Medicine in 1986 at the Albany Medical College. She began her postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, completing two years as an intern and assistant resident in pediatrics before coming to Einstein, where she completed a residency in child neurology, followed by a fellowship in epilepsy and electrophysiology in 1991.</p><p>Dr. Ballaban-Gil&rsquo;s research interests include the relationship between epilepsy and language regression in youngsters with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, autism and other developmental disorders of higher cognitive functioning. Her publications include numerous papers on autism, epilepsy related language disorders and the Ketogenic Diet. <p>Yaroslav (Jacob) Gelfand, MD, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Gelfand&rsquo;s clinical specialty is in the use of minimally invasive approaches to diagnose and treat a wide variety of spine pathologies and problems. With extensive training in both minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, Dr. Gelfand offers the latest treatment options to patients, using cutting-edge technology including intraoperative image guidance, fluoroscopy, endoscopy and pre-operative computer planning.</p><p>After completing his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering at University of California, Davis, Dr. Gelfand studied his Doctor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, earning the degree in 2013. His time at Weill Cornell included a yearlong Howard Hughes Medical Fellowship at the institution&rsquo;s neurobiology and behavioral science lab. From 2013 to 2018, Dr. Gelfand pursued a residency in neurosurgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then completed a research fellowship at Columbia University as well as a nonclinical research fellowship with Globus Medical's Musculoskeletal Education and Research Center in 2019, before returning to be chief resident at Einstein&rsquo;s Department of Neurological Surgery from 2019 to 2020. In 2021, Dr. Gelfand completed his yearlong minimally invasive and complex spine surgery fellowship at the University of California&rsquo;s Los Angeles Spine Center.</p><p>Dr. Gelfand&rsquo;s research focuses on the latest spine technology, surgical techniques and patient outcomes. He has authored and co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters along with many more abstracts and presentations. His research efforts have been presented at numerous national and international conferences and have been recognized with several distinguished awards. He is also a reviewer for Global Spine Journal, Clinical Biomechanics and Spine Journal.</p><p>Dr. Gelfand is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.</p>

<p>Dr. Danielle Fernandes is an assistant professor of pediatrics and pediatric hospitalist at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore. Prior to joining Einstein, she served as the Site Director for the pediatrics clerkship at New York Medical College/Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. She joined the Einstein faculty in 2019 and in 2022, she became Course Director for the Bioethics course for medical students. She also co-facilitates bioethics, humanism and professionalism sessions for the pediatric residents at CHAM. She is interested in curriculum development and keeping our curriculum up to date with the ethical issues around us. Dr. Fernandes is a graduate of Cornell University and received her medical degree from Columbia University. She completed her residency training at New York Presbyterian at Columbia. Dr. Fernandes is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and member of the AAP Section on Bioethics subgroup.</p>

<p>Danielle M. Fernandes, MD, is an Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Fernandes is a pediatric hospitalist committed to providing patient-focused and family-centered care to children admitted to the pediatric hospital medicine service.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in human biology, health and society from Cornell University in 2010, Dr. Fernandes earned her Doctor of Medicine at Columbia University in 2014. Following this, she completed her pediatric residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University in 2017. Given her interest in bioethics, Dr. Fernandes later earned a certificate in bioethics at Montefiore Einstein in 2023.</p><p>Dr. Fernandes co-facilitates bioethics, humanism and professionalism sessions for the pediatric residents at The Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. Her research is focused on curriculum development and medical education. She also teaches Bioethics to medical students at the medical school. <p>Ronda Facchini, PhD, is Director, Neuropsychology Externship Training Program at Montefiore Einstein and Instructor, Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Facchini completed an internship and post-doctoral training in neuropsychology at Montefiore in 1997.</p><p>Building on her clinical focus, Dr. Facchini&rsquo;s research interests include neurodevelopmental disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and neuropsychological components of medical conditions. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications and poster presentations.</p><p>Dr. Facchini is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN), the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology (AAPdN), the International Neuropsychological Society (INS) and the New York State Association of Neuropsychology (NYSAN).</p>
