<p>Stanley H. Boczko, MD, Assistant Professor of Urology, an expert in general urologic care and the treatment of all forms of urological disorders, joined Montefiore in 2016. Dr. Boczko currently serves as an Attending Physician in Urology at Montefiore and as a Clinical Instructor of Urology at Einstein. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The City College of New York. After earning his medical degree from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Boczko completed his internship and residence training in Surgery and Urology at Montefiore. Under the auspices of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Boczko obtained fellowship training in renal transplantation, microsurgery, and hemodialysis access and later he was the recipient of the F.C Valentine Essay Contest in Urology Award in Clinical Urology. Dr. Boczko is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Clinical Urologists. In recent years he has been chosen by several prestigious publications such as New York Magazine as one of the best doctors in the New York Metro Area. He is fluent in Hebrew, Yiddish and Spanish.</p>

<p>Enver Akalin, MD, earned his medical degree at Ege University School of Medicine in Izmir, Turkey. He completed a research fellowship in the Renal Division at Brigham and Woman&rsquo;s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, followed by a clinical fellowship in the Renal Division at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Akalin completed his residency in Internal Medicine as well as a clinical transplant nephrology fellowship in the Renal Division at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta.</p>
<p>After completing his fellowship, Dr. Akalin joined the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as a faculty in 2000 and served as the Medical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation Program until January 2009. He is currently the Medical Director of the Kidney Transplantation Program at Montefiore Medical Center /Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY and Professor of Medicine and Surgery.</p>
<p>Dr. Akalin&rsquo;s main research interest is understanding the mechanisms of allograft injury using microarrays and novel biomarkers. He is the first investigator who applied microarray technology in kidney transplant recipients which was published in 2001. Dr. Akalin received Young Investigator Travel Award of the American Society of Transplant Physicians twice and received American Society of Transplant Physicians Council&rsquo;s Faculty Grant in 2002 to continue his research related to mechanisms of chronic allograft injury. He has had involved in multiple NIH studies and has active multiple RO1 grants. He involved in more than 25 multicenter clinical trials as a site principal investigator. He has authored or co-authored more than 135 original scientific articles, review articles and book chapters. He had served on the Editorial Board of the Clinical Journal of The American Society of Nephrology and Transplantation. He is currently the Chief Section Editor of Frontiers in Transplantation. Dr. Akalin chaired the American Society of Transplantation, Transplantation and Immunology Research Network, Clinical Science Grant Review Committee.</p>
<p>Dr. Akalin other interest is education of nephrology and transplant nephrology fellows. He started transplant nephrology fellowship program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2006 and at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2011 and was the Transplant nephrology fellowship Director. He has served at Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Accreditation Committee for more than 10 years and chaired the Committee last 2 years. Later, he has served and chaired the governing board of Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Training Accreditation Programs. Dr. Akalin has served as Abstract Review Committee Chairman/co-Chairman/Reviewer at American Transplant Congress, World Transplant Congress, The Transplant Society Congress and Annual American Society of Nephrology Meetings. He currently serves at Education Committee of the Transplantation Society and Medical Directors Task Force of American Society of Transplantation. He has served at Clinical Trials Committee and chaired the Fellow of American Society of Transplantation Committee.</p>
<p>Dr. Akalin served at the New York Society of Nephrology as Academic Program Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer, vice president and president between 2013 and 2017.</p>

Enver Akalin, MD, earned his medical degree at Ege University School of Medicine in Izmir, Turkey. He completed a research fellowship in the Renal Division at Brigham and Woman's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, followed by a clinical fellowship in the Renal Division at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Akalin completed his residency in Internal Medicine as well as a clinical transplant nephrology fellowship in the Renal Division at Emory University School of Medicine. <p>Matthew Abramowitz, M.D., M.S. completed his medical education at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center, where he was a Chief Resident.&nbsp; He remained at Einstein/Montefiore for nephrology fellowship and earned a Masters in Clinical Research through Einstein&rsquo;s Clinical Research Training Program.&nbsp; He is currently Associate Professor of Medicine at Einstein. &nbsp;He is the recipient of a Career Development Award from the Einstein/Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, a Carl Gottschalk Research Scholar Grant from the American Society of Nephrology, and K23 and R01 awards from the National Institutes of Health.</p>
<p>Dr. Abramowitz&rsquo;s research focuses on the effects of chronic kidney disease on skeletal muscle physiology and physical function. Additional interests include chronic metabolic acidosis, including its sequelae and treatment approaches in patients with chronic kidney disease. His work employs both observational and interventional study designs and translational methods including skeletal muscle biopsies and transcriptomic analysis of skeletal muscle. Current areas of investigation include pathology his group has identified in adults with chronic kidney disease: altered muscle regeneration and fibrosis, and gait abnormalities which associate with fall risk and cognitive impairment.</p>

Biography

Nitya Abraham, MD, Associate Professor of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, joined Montefiore in 2015 as a specialist in female pelvic medicine and lower urinary tract reconstruction. Upon graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut, Dr. Abraham completed her medical degree as well as her urology residency training at New York University. She completed her fellowship training in pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at Cleveland Clinic. At Montefiore, she established the pelvic floor program in collaboration with colleagues in the Ob/Gyn department, which offers state of the art treatment for pelvic floor disorders. She is an active member of the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU). She is also focused on medical education and has been urology residency program director since 2020 and member of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine curriculum committee since 2022. She has over 45 peer-reviewed publications and has been funded by research grants from the Department of Defense and SUFU. She specializes in treating urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, urethral reconstruction, urinary fistula, mesh complications, and more, using robotic, open, or vaginal approaches depending on what is best suited for her patients.
