How to Apply for Financial Aid
At Einstein College of Medicine, we want to make the application process for financial aid as simple as possible. Whether you are a student in our M.D. program who needs financial aid to help pay for cost of living expenses beyond tuition and fees covered by the David S. and Ruth L. Gottesman Scholarship Fund or a student in one of Einstein’s graduate biomedical science programs or master’s degree programs, we recommend you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible so that the broadest range of funds is available.
To complete the FAFSA, you must submit financial information about yourself, your parents, and if applicable your spouse. We consider your entire household financial situation when determining the appropriate financial aid package. The following items are required for all students:
• filing your federal income tax returns
• filing your W-2 form(s)
• Albert Einstein College of Medicine FAFSA Institutional Code: 042797
• Federal Student Aid identification number (FSA ID) issued by the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Office
All students who wish to be considered for federal loans must complete a master promissory note and loan entrance counseling from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Federal Student Aid.
Dates and Deadlines
Accepted applicants and returning students interested in applying for loans can submit the FAFSA as early as October 1 of the year before their application year. Accepted applicants and returning students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible and no later than March 15 of their application year.
If you are accepted from Einstein’s waitlist, we ask that you complete the FAFSA as soon as possible so that we may package your award.
Financial aid award decisions are made following the submission of all financial aid application materials by March 15. Award letters are emailed to first-year M.D. students on a rolling basis, beginning in late March.
Returning students receive their financial aid award letter notifications from late May to early June. Each aid recipient is required to acknowledge acceptance of the aid award within 30 days of receipt.
The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) now partners with the Department of Education and provides the tax information necessary to verify your income without any action needed on your part.
If you do not plan to file a tax return, you may be required to submit a tax waiver form as part of your application materials to declare exemption. We require that you use the Internal Revenue Service Data Retrieval Tool to import your information into the FAFSA.
Students in the DACA program and international students are not eligible for federal loans. We are proud to offer Gottesman Scholarships to all students who enroll in the Einstein M.D. program, regardless of immigration status. The office of student finance will notify you if you are eligible for other institutional loans.
In addition to the Gottesman Scholarship, M.D. students may consider applying to other institutional scholarships offered through Einstein’s endowed scholarship application portal (an AD username and Einstein password are required) as well as other federal and private scholarships that are available to cover the cost of attendance.
